My darling daughter Alysha turned 10 yesterday. Double Figures. She isn’t a baby anymore. So to celebrate we had a party at the local Ice Skating rink. It was great because it wasn’t ice, and therefore wasn’t cold and wet. It was an artificial surface but you still get to wear ice skates and the place is decked out like its winter and there is lots of snow pictures everywhere.
To keep with the theme, I made an Ice Skate as a birthday cake. The Family circle kids party cake book had a recipe for a roller blade cake and I just changed the bottom to make it an Ice Skate. Just some Licorice covered in Aluminium foil. Easy once you know how.
Then I had to make a birthday card from my husband and me. Left it to the night before her birthday, after I had done the cake. It was getting near midnight and I was trying to work out what colours go together….when it hit me. Just use the cake for inspiration. I had inadvertently tinted the icing on the cake Pixie Pink, Tempting turquoise and Ballet Blue. My daughter loves the bold colour family and I have trouble putting the bold colours together, but it was already done for me.
It must have been the late night , because before I realised it, I was thinking…. why don’t I make an Ice Skating card too! I used a couple of different punches to get the shape, and just coloured it in with Sponge Daubers like the icing on the cake. I could have embossed the blade with some silver embossing powder, but whats a girl to do without some glitter. Finished it off with some non SU bling. What does everyone think?
