Extreme Expresso Birthday

I had another 40th Birthday card to make this week for a male friend.

Has everyone seen the Extreme Elements stamp set? I really like it for male cards and you can use it for all age groups. I have also teamed it up with the Grunge Rock stamp set as well. Grunge Rock is only available during the current Summer Mini promotion until 31st March.

The background paper is Very Vanilla and I have stamped with various stamps from both sets in Cake Crumb, River Rock and Marina Mist ink. I have cut out the Guitar image and highlighted it even further by using dimensionals. You can still gets the brads, but I am afraid the ribbon and Star Brad have retired (just utilizing the last of my stock). You could certainly use a matching Early Expresso Ribbon and then substitute the star for an Antique Brad, a Jumbo Brad or even a different Star Brad out of the Hodgepodge Hardware kit.

I suppose you could even highlight it was a 40th card by adding “40” from the big shot dies, or if it was a younger male even adding some Chocolate or Aqua glitter on the guitar. I thought about both of these ideas, but ran out of time in my preparation. Hope you like it.

As I have said before, May is quite a month. it is also my son’s birthday as well. So I have been very creative, and needed to come up with three cards for his birthday. One from his sister, one from his Aunt, and one from us(mum and dad). The one above, is from his sister. Now, who would have thought that boys cards could have glitter? But the new Fine Supernova Glitter is available in five colours. The chocolate adds some pizazz to his card. I stamped non SU eleven in close to cocoa, the 2-way glue pen was fine enough to allow me to trace over the numbers and then I just sprinkled on the chocolate glitter and what a transformation!

The DSP is from the 6×6 pad that is a level 1 hostess gift. There is over 60 sheets in five colours and I am so glad that Stampin’ Up! is trialing alternative hostess gifts this year. The cute caterpillar is from the stamp set Bugs and Kisses.

His Aunt forgot to send a card from interstate in time to reach Nathan for his birthday, so I agreed to make one for her. It gave me a chance to use one of the new “In Colours” Riding Hood Red. I am certainly liking this colour. I also got to play with a new stamp set called Starring You. It co-ordinates with the Simply Sent Card Elements.

Sometimes you have to experiment with colours that wouldn’t be your first choice. Brocade Blue, Kiwi Kiss and Sahara Sand is the combination that I feel turned out fine. Sometimes it goes against everything that we ever learn in fashion. “Blue and green should never be seen…”

The hedgehog is embossed in black. It stands out better against the silver brads. The brad in the middle is a Star Designer Brad.

Rock n Roll Angel Fish

MultiAngelFish.RockandRollI made this card for my DH on his birthday. I am still experimenting with Tangerine Tango, and certainly making the most of  “Ocean Commotion” for male cards. I combined two techniques for the fish. Firstly I used Sahara Sand, Basic Grey and Going Grey markers (from the neutrals set) to colour the fish, and then I used a technique called Rock and Roll to add a contrasting colour around the edge.

After cutting out the fish, I adhered one flat, another with a dimensional, and the third with a non SU dimensional which has a greater depth. This gives a greater 3D effect adding to the realism of the fish. Combine this with some DSP and an embossed greeting from the set Sincere Salutations and your finished.

Autumn Flair

Autumn FlairThis is one of the new Level 2 exclusive Hostess stamp sets. The images are great for two-step stamping. Two-step stamping adds another dimension to your projects by adding depth to your image. The stamps can also be used singularly as well.

Here is an example of a card that I made for my BIL. The images are great to use with the Earth Elements colour family as well, giving a rich autumn feel. I have used the co-ordinating markers with a blender pen to create a watercolour effect. By using the blender pen, it creates a softer tone.

If you would like to know how you could earn this stamp set for FREE, then check out my Workshop page. There are other great benefits for hostesses as well.

Ocean Commotion is in

ocean.markersOcean Commotion was featured in the Summer Mini Catalogue and has made it into this years Ideas Book and Catalogue. It is a great set for some male cards. I love using my Markers. There is so many possibilities to how you can use them. One is to use contrasting colours and colour in different portions of your stamp image. Then “huff” on your stamp to re-moisten the ink before stamping.

wishbig.commotionYou can easily make your own background paper/card by using a couple of different stamps in a two or three colours and randomly stamping the same images across the page. It sometimes works best if done in softer colours so your main image stands out.
